Preview: Milan Vs Roma

Sergio Conceicao’s men to battle AS Roma in Coppa Italia.

AC Milan are all set to host AS Roma for the Coppa Italia 2024-25 quarter-final. Both Milan and Roma have come up with average performances this season and hence are not doing good in Serie A. This is going to be an evenly matched contest which might end up in penalties. In the end, it will depend upon both sides.

AC Milan secured a draw against in-form Inter Milan in their last fixture. Milan will be coming in confident as they have already bagged silverware this season after defeating Inter in the Supercoppa Italiana final. But their performances in the Italian League have been average this season as they are currently sitting in the eighth spot.

AS Roma forced Napoli to drop a couple of points. Roma’s last fixture which was against Napoli ended up in a draw. In the Coppa Italia Round of 16, Roma thrashed Sampdoria to seal a spot in the quarterfinals stage. They will now be looking to defeat AC Milan so that they can progress further. It is not going to be an easy task for either of the sides.

About SuperCoppa Italiana:

History

The Supercoppa Italiana (English: Italian Super Cup) is an annual super cup tournament in Italian football.

Founded in 1988 as a two-team competition, it has featured four teams from the 2023 edition onwards: the winners and runners-up of the previous season's Serie A and Coppa Italia. Up until 2023, it was a match contested by the winners of the Serie A and the Coppa Italia in the previous season. If the same team won both the Serie A and Coppa Italia titles in the previous season, the Supercoppa was contested by the Serie A winner and the Coppa Italia runner-up, in essence becoming a rematch of the previous year's Coppa Italia final.

Originally, it was scheduled in the summer as a curtain-raiser to the new season, played at the home stadium of the Serie A champions. Since 2018, the competition has been scheduled during the winter months and takes place mainly outside Italy. Juventus is the most successful club with nine titles. The most frequent Supercoppa match-up has been Juventus against Lazio, occurring on five occasions.
